International Military - The Akinci fighter drone and the Mikoyan MiG-29 fighter plane were seen roaming the globe at a recent technology exhibition. It is known, the two defense equipment were doing the same formation. As is well known, Selçuk Bayraktar, the architect of the first TB2 Bayraktar drone developed locally in Turkey, flew over Baku during Teknofest Azerbaijan aboard the Mikoyan MiG-29 fighter of the Azerbaijan Air Force.
Bayrkatar, who is Baykar's Chief Technology Officer undertook the flight with the deputy commander of the Azerbaijan Air Force, Air Pilot Colonel Zaur Rustamov. The flight lasted about 60 minutes and was carried out in formation with the successor to the Bayraktar TB2, the Bayraktar Akinci combat drone, developed by Baykar.
Bayraktar himself led the MiG-29 aircraft during maneuvers and part of formation flights. Quoted from Daily Sabah, Selçuk Bayraktar and deputy commander of the Azerbaijan Air Combat Force, Air Pilot Colonel Zaur Rustamov hold a special pilot license.
Bayraktar and Colonel Rustamov receive a briefing from the first pilot of the Turkish SoloTürk aerobatics team, Air Pilot Colonel Murat Kele, before taking off from Haydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku. They then switched to the Russian-made twin-seat MiG-29.
The flight of the MiG-29 and Bayraktar Akinci formations over Baku was watched with excitement from the city. Bayraktar led the MiG-29 during maneuvers and part of formation flight. Bayraktar Akinci will also conduct a show flight at Teknofest Azerbaijan.
Aviation Colonel Rustamov, who received the Karabakh Medal for his service in the 2020 war, and Bayraktar, who was awarded the Karabakh Order from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for his contribution to ending the 30-year occupation.
After the flight, Bayraktar and Rustamov posed for a souvenir photo with Azerbaijani Air Force personnel at the air base. Referring to the Bayraktar TB2 drone, the drone has indeed achieved success recently. Where in Ukraine and Russia, he managed to become a milestone in the beginning of the war began.
Bayraktar TB2 is also mentioned as playing an important role for Ukraine. Apart from Ukraine, Bayraktar TB2 also played an important role in Azerbaijan winning the 44-day war against Armenia in 2020 over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.
The Bayraktar TB2 drone obliterated a large number of Armenian tanks, combat vehicles, artillery units and air defenses. "Thanks to the advanced Turkish drones owned by the Azerbaijani military, our casualties on the front lines are shrinking," Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said in a television interview with the Turkish news channel TRT Haber.
