NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg attends a ceremony to mark Sweden's and Finland's application for membership in Brussels, Belgium, May 18, 2022 |
International Military - Sweden and Finland have expressed their desire to join NATO. The desire of Sweden and Finland was also a discussion for NATO members.
Previously, Turkey, which is a member of NATO, showed its displeasure at the wishes of Sweden and Finland. Turkish President Erdoan on May 13, 2022 said that he could not give positive comments on the wishes of Sweden and Finland.
Apparently, the problems of Sweden and Finland's desire to join NATO do not end there. Russia, who was annoyed by this, had threatened both Sweden and Finland.
Sweden is known to have responded to Moscow's threats aimed at its country. "There is a risk of a reaction from Russia, let me state that in a case like this, we are ready to face any kind of counter-response," the Swedish side said.
With this response, of course, without realizing it can also be interpreted as Sweden is ready to go to war with Russia. If there really was a war, it would risk another conflict after Ukraine.
Meanwhile, as reported by the ANTARA page, Indonesia also gave a statement on Sweden's and Finland's decision to join NATO. Spokesman for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Teuku Faizasyah, said that by registering Sweden and Finland as NATO members, it was hoped that it would not increase tensions.
Considering that currently tensions in Ukraine due to the Russian invasion are still ongoing. "On the Indonesian side, it is hoped that there will be a process of easing tensions," said Teuku Faizasyah.
Not only that, Faizasyah also said that with the desire of a country to join, it would only increase tension. However, Faizasyah said that the desire and decision of Sweden and Finland to join was indeed the right of each country.
"Our hope, regardless of the rights and freedoms of each country to join a defense pact, we hope the big process is towards stable conditions and peace," he added.
