Moscow - Russian President Vladimir Putin recently announced that his army could deploy the S-500 in the near future. The S-500 itself is claimed to be the most advanced and powerful air defense system in the world.
This defense system is used to intercept enemy aircraft and ballistic missiles at hypersonic speeds. The Russian president's remarks came when he gave a speech in front of graduates of a military college in Moscow, early last May, TASS reported.

The president, who was once a spy, added that the S-500 defense system can also hit satellite targets, and there is no match in the world.
The S-500 is Russia's newest hypersonic surface-to-air missile or anti-ballistic missile system which is intended to replace the role of the A-135, and complement the S-400.

Almaz-Antey head Yan Novikov said the company expects the S-500 to be the backbone of Russia's anti-air capabilities. He confirmed back in April that the system had gone into serial production.
