International Military - Ukraine has received a lot of support from many countries to confront Russia. Ukraine is known to have faced invasion from Russia since February 24, 2022. The invasion shows no sign of ending even though it has lasted more than three months.
Recently, there was a report saying that it was possible that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would be tried as a war criminal. That would have happened if Zelensky was captured by the Russians.
Quoted from the News Week page, a senior lawmaker in the Donetsk People's Republic Yelena Shishkina said that the Russian-backed region aims to prosecute the Ukrainian president as a war criminal. Yelena Shishkina also said that the House of Representatives would soon bring charges against lawmakers who supported Ukraine since 2014.
This happened when President Vladimir Putin had annexed Crimea. For that, either Zelensky, former acting president Oleksandr Turchynov, or former President Petro Poroshenko. The reason for making Zelensky a war criminal, according to him, does not only happen because of holding weapons. But also people who issue orders, including orders from the president though.
"The perpetrators of military crimes are not only those who hold the gun and pull the trigger. They are also the generals who issue orders and also the president," said Shinskina.
In this regard, Shishkina also said that the law in the self-declared republic has established criminal responsibility for war crimes. "Ukraine has implemented conditions that allow neo-Nazi organizations to function on its territory," Shinskina added.
Shishkina's statement comes after the International Criminal Court will investigate possible war crimes. Which will be noticed as long as the invasion of Russia and Ukraine continues. "When sufficient evidence is presented by law enforcement agencies, then of course those who are guilty will be punished," he added.
Indeed, at this time the Chief Prosecutor of the Court is indeed investigating the possibility of war crimes in the two countries. Especially now that many officials and world leaders are calling for Putin to be responsible for the increasing number of civilian casualties in Ukraine.
Although there was no immediate response to this statement from the shinskina from Kyiv, they have also drawn up their own resolution. Which according to them the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin is a war criminal.
Not only that, according to them, Putin must also be responsible for all the damage that is currently happening in Ukraine. Like many cases of death, damage to buildings, loss of movable or immovable prices, and residents who were forced to evacuate.
