International Military - A Russian Su-35 fighter jet was allegedly shot down by a Ukrainian MiG-29 jet. This is thought to have occurred in the confrontation in the Kherson region. According to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, an Air Force MiG-29 shot down a Russian Su-35 on May 27.
"Today, May 27, at approximately 14.00, a MiG-29 fighter aircraft of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces shot down a Russian Su-35 fighter jet in the skies of the Kherson region," the air force said in a statement from the Twitter account @KpsZSU. "Glory to the Ukrainian pilots! Death to the invaders!" added the statement.
However, there is no detailed information regarding the fight. There are no scattered photos of the Russian Su-35 Flanker E wreckage. If the claim is verified, this would be Russia's second loss of the Su-35 in a conflict with Ukraine.
As is well known, on April 3, 2022, the first Su-35S Flanker-E was destroyed near Izium near the Kharkiv region. An anti-aircraft missile fired by the Ukrainian Air Force reportedly brought down the plane. The wreckage of the Kh-31 anti-radiation missile (ARM) was also found among the debris of the Flanker at the time. The aircraft was said to be assigned to a SEAD (Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses) mission to eliminate enemy ground-based air defense radars.
Reporting from Sandboxx, Russia is claimed to have failed to achieve Ukrainian air dominance. This also happened for several reasons. As a result, despite Russia's superiority, the Ukrainian Air Force managed to fly dozens of fighter and strike aircraft over 60 days into the conflict.
Ukraine not only flies dozens of planes, but they are also flying more and more because other countries have helped. During his daily briefing to the press in April 2022, Secretary of the Defense Press Secretary John F. Kirby, acknowledged that the Ukrainian Air Force had received aircraft spare parts that would allow it to put more aircraft in the air.
"I'm just going to say without going into what other countries are providing that they've received additional platforms and parts to be able to increase their fleet size, the size of their aircraft fleet, I think I'll stop there. Platforms and parts thereof," the Pentagon press secretary said. .
There are several European countries, including Poland, Bulgaria and Slovakia, that still fly the MiG-29s and could send them to Ukraine. So, although there is no certainty about the Su-35 which is claimed to have been shot down. It is true that Ukraine flies MiG-29s as part of its air battle with Russia.
