The two luxury jets are a Gulfstream aircraft worth $60 million and a Boeing jet worth $350 million. A US federal judge signed a warrant authorizing the seizure of a Gulfstream and a Boeing jet that authorities said was worth less than $100 million before the lavish adjustment.
The move comes just days after the United States announced new sanctions and penalties against Russian oligarchs and elites, Kremlin officials, businessmen linked to President Vladimir Putin and their cruise ships, aircraft and the companies that manage them.
US President Joe Biden vowed after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February to pursue "illegal gains" for the Russian elite. A representative for Abramovich did not immediately return a message seeking comment on the seizure attempt.
