Korea's KF-21 Boramae fighter jet has AESA radar capabilities and other advanced technology |
International Military - The inaugural flight test of the KF-21 Boramae has given South Korea and Indonesia pride. The flight test was carried out after being delayed for some time. The inaugural flight of the KF-21 Boramae managed to steal the attention of many parties and observers from various countries.
Quoted from Defense View, the domestic production of the KF-21 Boramae makes South Korea the 8th country in the world to successfully develop a 4++ generation fighter aircraft.
According to observers, the KF-21 Boramae is the "Asian version of the F-35" due to its very similar design to the fifth-generation aircraft manufactured by Lockheed Martin.
Please note, the AESA radar used in the KF-21 Boramae is locally made in South Korea. In addition, the ability of the KF-21 Boramae fighter jet is also not arbitrary, where this aircraft is said to be able to bear a very large burden.
The wings of the KF-21 Boramae fighter jet can carry a load of more than 7 tons. That is, its wings are capable of carrying missiles and bombs. The existence of the KF-21 Boramae is also a sign of the progress of South Korea's defense industry.
"Named with the meaning of being a domestic fighter who will protect the Korean Peninsula in the 21st century as well as an important force to leap into the advanced aerospace power of the 21st century. The common name is 'Bora Mae' which means Korean-style fighter aircraft that flies passionately for an independent national defense in the future,” wrote Hanwha Systems.
“Boramae, as the name suggests, is fast. It has a top speed of 2,200 km which is 1.8 times the speed of sound. In addition, it can carry 7.7 tons of ordnance, providing mobility and combat capability in all weathers. With the release of the prototype 'KF-21 Boramae', South Korea has been named the country that developed the 8th supersonic fighter aircraft in the world,” explained Hanwha Systems.
In collaboration with the National Defense Science Research Institute, Hanwha Systems succeeded in developing the AESA radar, electro-optical target tracking system (EO TGP) and infrared search and tracking system (IRST).
It is the core sensor for the KF-21 Boramae fighter. Thanks to this, the KF-21 Boramae is able to increase its ability to respond to 5th generation stealth aircraft," explained the source.
“The AESA radar, called the 'battle eye', detects the target by independently moving about 1,000 small transceiver modules,” explains Hanwha Systems.
Reports shared by foreign media, The Diplomat, explained that the KF-21 Boramae was more formidable than the US F-16 and the French Rafale. Based on publicly sourced research, the KF-21 is said to be superior to contemporary advanced non-stealth fighter aircraft such as the US F-16 or the French Dassault Rafale," explained The Diplomat, April 16, 2021.
