Pyongyang - North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said his country was ready to mobilize its nuclear war deterrent and for any military clash with the United States (US). North Korea's nuclear war deterrent is nothing but nuclear weapons.
Kim Jong-un's dangerous statement was published by North Korea's state media, KCNA, on Thursday (28/7/2022). The remarks come amid signs that North Korea could conduct its first nuclear weapons test since 2017.
According to the KCNA report, Kim Jong-un made the remarks while addressing an event to mark the 69th anniversary of the July 27 Korean War armistice, which left the two Koreas technically still at war.
Kim Jong-un also criticized the government of South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, saying any attempt to cripple North Korea would be met with a harsh response and annihilation.
"I once again made it clear that North Korea is fully prepared for any military confrontation with the United States," Kim Jong-un said.
North Korea has in recent months tested hypersonic missiles and missiles it says can carry tactical nuclear weapons, narrowing the time South Korea must have to respond to a pending strike.
