Washington - The White House has announced that the United States will send additional weapons worth USD270 million to Ukraine. This new aid package will include more medium-range rocket systems and tactical drones.
Friday's announcement brings the total US military and economic aid provided to Ukraine by US President Joe Biden's administration to $8.2 billion.
Some of the $40 billion in total aid has been paid in the form of economic and security assistance approved by Congress in May. America's latest aid package this time includes four High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems or HIMARS and possibly as many as 580 Phoenix Ghost drones.
The two important weapons will allow Ukraine to keep fighting despite the supremacy of Russian artillery. This was stated by John Kirby, the White House National Security Council coordinator for strategic communications.
Recent assistance also includes approximately 36,000 rounds of artillery ammunition and additional ammunition for HIMARS. "The president has made it clear that we will continue to support the Ukrainian government and its people for as long as necessary," Kirby said, as quoted by Al Jazeera, Saturday (23/7/2022).
The development comes as Ukrainian forces have used rocket launchers and US-made tactical drones to destroy dozens of Russian targets and detain the larger and more heavily armed Russian forces.
