Arion-SMET 6x6 Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) by Hanwha System |
International Military - Hanwha Systems launches the state-of-the-art 6x6 unmanned ground vehicle (UGV), the Arion SMET. This UGV is designed to support infantry soldiers on the battlefield in different situations. This UGV also displays various futuristic capabilities.
The futuristic capabilities include autonomous driving, remotely controlled maneuvering, tether following sensors, and manned and unmanned team operations (MUM-T).
Quoted from Military Leak, Hanwha Defense has previously exhibited intelligence UGV (I-UGV). The I-UGV is a 2 tonne electric car that can travel at a top speed of 30 kilometers per hour on paved roads.
South Korean defense contractors said in a statement that I-UGV field demonstrations began in the army's infantry division. This was done to test various capabilities such as remote control, GPS-based autonomous driving, and remote-controlled weapons systems (RCWS).
The I-UGV will also be remotely controlled or operated autonomously on the battlefield for reconnaissance missions. I-UGV can also carry out missions such as reconnaissance, communication relay, logistics transportation, casualty transportation, and close combat.
RCWS Hanwha Defense is an artificial intelligence based weapon tower system. It could detect the sound of gunfire and fire back in the direction of the origin of the sound. The remote-controlled six-wheel I-UGV will try to re-establish its communication link with the control tower when it loses radio signal. If it fails to reconnect with the control tower, the I-UGV will automatically return to its starting point.
The i-MPUGV will offer increased speed and range on a single battery charge compared to the MPUGV. The new vehicle will be capable of traveling on highways and cross-country speeds of up to 40 km/h and 20 km/h, respectively. It will also have a range of 100 km on a single charge. It also offers a payload capacity of 500 kg, which is more than double the MPUGV, which can carry up to 200 kg of shops and equipment.
