| China Replaces HQ-7 Defense System with HQ-10 on Its Type 054 Warship |
International Military - China is one of the countries that has succeeded in developing many warships independently. A country that has a capable defense industry, of course, will have many advanced defense equipment. Therefore, it is not surprising that China has succeeded in strengthening the Chinese military with many formidable defense equipment. China has successfully developed the Type 054 warship.
The Chinese Type 054 frigate is a multi-role warship. Quoted from defenseview.in, this warship was commissioned by China since 2005.
“The Type 054 is a Chinese class of multi-role frigates which were commissioned in the People's Liberation Army Navy in 2005. The existence of the Type 054 warship is said to replace the Type 053H3 frigate. Only two ships, Ma'anshan (525), and Wenzhou (526) were completed before production switched to the VLS-equipped Type 054A frigate.
The Type 054 battleship has a recessed hull design with a sloping surface. The Chinese frigates are also equipped with radar-absorbent materials, and the superstructure complexity is reduced. The main anti-ship armament is the YJ-83 sea-skimming anti-ship cruise missile in two four-cell launchers.
The short-range defense has four AK-630 CIWS turrets. A 100 mm main deck gun, based on a French design, was also mounted on board. Each vessel is powered by two (or four) Type 16 PA STC and two MTU 20V 956TB92 diesel engines.
According to a recent report published by Navy Recognition, the People's Liberation Army Navy has replaced its old HQ-7 short-range air defense SAM. The existence of the HQ-7 defense system on the Chinese Type 54 ship was reportedly replaced with the HQ-10.
The HQ-7 (FM-80) is a Chinese short-range low-altitude air defense missile engineered from France's Crotale. The missiles were deployed on both ships and land vehicles. China revealed an export version, the FM-90, at the 1989 Dubai Air Show. Unit costs were about $162,000 per launcher and $24,500 per missile.
The missile used by the HQ-7 defense system is 3 m (9.8 ft) long and 0.156 m (6.1 in) in diameter. The missile travels at a speed of Mach 2.3 with a maximum range of 15 km. The missile uses a High-Explosive Fragmentation Warhead with a proximity fuse detonation mechanism.
Meanwhile, the HQ-10 is a short-range surface-to-air missile designed by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC). It is currently used as a point defense missile system aboard PLA Navy warships.
The HQ-10's design places it in a similar role to the US Rolling Airframe Missile Defense System, both serving as point defense missile systems.
