Russian Army Soon to Receive PPK-20 submachine gun and SVCh sniper rifle |
Moscow - The Russian Army will receive a range of cutting-edge weapons, including the PPK-20 submachine gun and the SVCh sniper rifle, by the end of the year. The news was revealed by the Kalashnikov Group on Sunday (14/8/2022).
“We believe it will be the best machine gun in the world for the next 20 years,” the head of the renowned arms manufacturer, Alan Lushnikov, told reporters, describing the PPK-20. Data provided by the company shows the weapon is capable of firing 800 rounds per minute.
According to Russian media, the bullet fired from the gun had a speed of almost 470 meters per second and was capable of penetrating level IIIA body armor.
Please note, visor level IIIA is one of the highest grades of shielding for lightweight concealable soft protection. The machine gun weighs just under 3 kg, has a sound moderator, and a standard mounting rail interface similar to the Picatinny rails used in Western guns.
The PPK-20 was first presented by Kalashnikov at the ARMY 2021 exhibition last year. The SVCh, or Chukavin Sniper Rifle, is a new generation of sniper rifle designed to replace the Soviet-made Dragunov Sniper Rifle (SVD).
Lighter than its predecessor, the weapon has higher precision, and is capable of hitting targets at a distance of about 1,200 meters. The small size of this semi-automatic rifle also makes it effective at medium ranges and even in close combat. The weapon was first demonstrated in 2017 and successfully passed state trials last year.
