Russian Military Sends New Tanks to Ukrainian Battlefield, T-90M Proryv Integrated Glonass Satellite |
Moscow - Russia has reportedly sent a number of the latest, more sophisticated and powerful tanks to the Ukrainian battlefield. The latest Main Battle Tank, the T-90M Proryv, is not only more powerful, but also guided by the Glonass satellite system. Despite the economic sanctions, Russia appears to be able to supply its troops with heavy armored vehicles.
ArmyRecognition wrote on August 5, 2022 that a new batch of T-90M Proryv tanks left UralVagonZavod, a company known for producing Russian main battle tanks. This is not the first delivery of T-90M Proryv tanks to the Russian army since the war broke out with Ukraine.
In mid-May, UralVagonZavod shipped a new batch. The T-90M Proryv is considered by Russia to be the most capable main battle tank.
Quoted from Bulgarian Military, Saturday (13/8/2022), in general the T-90M tank is equipped with the Kalina fire control system and the Afghanit active defense system. In addition, the T-90M tank received dynamic Relic protection as well as additional armor. According to the designers from Uralvagonzavod, the new T-90M Proryv tank has received a more powerful engine.
The standard configuration of the T-90 is powered by a 12-cylinder V-92S2 engine producing 1,000 horsepower, while the new tank version gets 130 more horsepower due to the new 12-cylinder V-92S2F engine.

The basic armament has not changed much, both tank modifications use the 2A46M 125mm smoothbore gun, but for the T-90M tank, the 2A46M-5 model is used. The 2A46M-5 model provides for the use of new high-power ammunition, as well as guided missiles that allow destroying enemy tanks at a distance of up to 5 kilometers.
Secondary armament consists of a 12.7mm Kord Heavy machine gun, and a 7.62mm PKMT on both tanks. One of the main improvements received by the T-90M is the tank's ability to have autonomous functions, namely real-time data exchange with other vehicles.
The T-90M tank has improved optical features for the new PNM Sosna-U gunner sights, four video cameras providing 360-degree coverage, new day and night optical sights, including a thermal camera that detects enemy targets at a distance of 3,300 meters. Armor is significantly improved with the use of Relikt Explosive Reactive Armor [ERA] which covers more parts of the tank. Most recently, the T-90M tank has integrated the Russian GLONASS space navigation, as well as the inertial navigation system [INS]. GLONASS or Global Navigation Satellite System is a space-based satellite navigation system operating in radionavigation-satellite. This system provides an alternative to GPS and is the second navigation system to operate with comparable global coverage and precision.
