Moscow - Dozens of foreign mercenaries, fighting for Kiev against Moscow, were killed in an attack on a compound in the northeastern Ukrainian city of Kharkov. This is a statement issued by the Russian Ministry of Defense.
“The temporary base of foreign mercenaries in the city of Kharkov was hit with a ground-based high-precision weapon. More than 90 militants were killed," Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov told his daily briefing.
"The Russian Air Force also attacked Ukrainian manpower and military hardware in the Kherson and Nikolaev Regions, killing 80 combatants and injuring 50 others," he added as quoted by Russia Today, Thursday (18/8/2022).
The building complex, which houses foreign mercenaries in Ukraine, has been targeted by Russia several times this month, causing heavy casualties. Thousands of foreign troops from Poland, Canada, the United States, Britain and other countries responded to President Vladimir Zelensky's call and flocked to Ukraine.
In April, the Russian military estimated their number at nearly 7,000. However, last month it was said that only 2,741 foreign troops remained in Ukraine. Many of them were killed, while others fled to their home countries and later complained about the chaos in the ranks of the Kiev army, as well as the lack of weapons and other equipment.
Konashenkov has previously warned that mercenaries are not viewed as soldiers under international law and that the best thing awaits them if they are captured alive is probation and maximum prison terms.
