Jakarta - KRI Teluk Calang 524 has officially entered the ranks of the Indonesian Navy. The Chief of Naval Staff (Kasal) Admiral TNI Yudo Margono inaugurated the Republic of Indonesia Warship (KRI) Type Transport Tank (AT)-7 at the Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) 2 Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta on Monday, August 8, 2022.
KRI Teluk Calang 524 is the seventh ship of the Teluk Bintuni class. Quoted from tnial.mil.id, Calang Bay itself is taken from the name of a bay in Aceh Jaya, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam. After its inauguration, KRI Teluk Calang 524 was officially included in the ranks of the Navy.
Meanwhile, the KRI will then be assigned to strengthen the Military Sea Crossing Unit (Satlinlamil) 1 Jakarta. According to KASAL's statement, the construction of this ship has two important meanings.
First, this is one of the evidences of the planning for the development of the Indonesian Navy's strength, including the modernization of the Navy's defense equipment. And second, the construction of ships in this domestic shipyard is a manifestation of the commitment of the Navy leadership to support and succeed in government programs.
This includes increasing the use of domestic production and the independence of the defense industry as always emphasized by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Joko Widodo on various occasions.
For information, KRI Teluk Calang 524 has a length of 120 meters, a width of 18 meters, a draft of 3 meters (full load) and a weight of 4,508 tons. The ship has a maximum speed of 16 knots, a cruising speed of 14.8 knots, and an economic speed of 13.6 knots.
