Compensation Money for Families of Russian Soldiers Killed in the Ukraine War |
International Military - Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree providing compensation to the families of Russian soldiers who died in Ukraine and Syria in June.
Each family member of the Russian National Guard who died will be given RUB5 million (USD81 thousand). Not only that, compensation money will also be given to the families of victims who served in special military operations in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, the breakaway regions of Ukraine.
The Russian National Guard, also known as Rosgvardia, is a unit formed by Putin in 2016. They are tasked with maintaining public order and dealing with terrorism. These troops report directly to President Putin.
But until now, Russia has not updated the number of soldiers who died on the battlefield since March 25. This is not surprising considering that the information is very sensitive for both countries.
On March 25, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that 1,351 soldiers had died in Ukraine. Beyond this official statement, many western officials and researchers have speculated about the true number of victims.
In July (15/7/2022), Ukraine's national news agency, Ukrinform, reported that the Ukrainian army had killed around 38,000 Russian soldiers. This was conveyed by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook.
