Donetsk - Ukrainian troops opened fire on residential buildings in Donetsk using 155 mm caliber artillery supplied by NATO. News of the latest attack was revealed by city officials on Tuesday (23/8/2022).
"An apartment complex in the capital of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) suffered a direct hit," Mayor Alexey Kulemzin wrote on Telegram. "Three civilians were killed," Kulemzin said.
One video posted on social media showed gray smoke billowing from what appeared to be a building in Donetsk. The mayor later said the city's 'Central' Hotel had been attacked and posted photos of the damaged buildings.
TASS media reported that Ukraine opened fire on a hotel where the journalists were staying. The office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives Denis Pushilin was also attacked. According to photos posted by Kulemzin, the building was also directly affected by the Ukrainian attack.
News site Mash said several floors of the office had been damaged. The outlet quoted a DPR official as saying Pushilin was not in the building at the time of the shooting.
