British Navy Will Receive Five New Type 31 Frigates By 2028 |
International Military - Babcock International will hand over five Type 31 frigates to the British Navy (RN) by 2028. John Howie, Babcock International's Chief Corporate Affairs Officer revealed this as reported by Naval Today.
Since the contract was awarded, the Type 31 frigate has achieved all of its contract milestones and continues to do so, despite the impact of the pandemic, Howie said in a statement to Rosyth.
Currently, the first ship is under construction and will be in the water at some point next year. Meanwhile, the fifth ship will be handed over in 2028, he said. Regarding the Type 31 frigate, Howie also explained that this ship was selected for the Indonesian and Polish navies.
It is said that the design of this ship in many aspects has attracted potential customers for international navies. “So far, we have managed to sell a design license with technical support for the design to Indonesia, which will build two ships of almost the same design. It has also been selected as the new main frigate for the Polish Navy," he said.
Babcock recently announced that they are in active discussions regarding export opportunities of the Arrowhead 140 concept selected for the design of the new Type 31 frigate for the Royal Navy.
