Germany promises €200 Million in aid for Ukrainians Displaced by the Russian Invasion |
Berlin - Germany will give Ukraine an additional 200 million euros to fund an aid program for those displaced by the Russian invasion. This was revealed by the Minister of Development Svenja Schulze to the Funke Media group. Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal is scheduled to visit Berlin on Monday (5/9/2022), where he will meet German Chancellor Olaf "I will talk to Prime Minister Shmyhal about how we can continue to support the Ukrainian government in treating refugees, " said Schulze, as quoted by Reuters on Sunday (4/9/2022). "The money is meant to help refugees in Ukraine continue to be able to provide for themselves," he added.
As of August 23, some 7 million people have been displaced in Ukraine since the Russian invasion on February 24, according to data from the United Nations International Organization for Migration. Last month, a German government official said the European Union intended to draw up a financing package for Ukraine worth around 8 billion euros by September, to which Germany would contribute.
Millions of Ukrainians are homeless due to the conflict, and 3.5 million Ukrainian refugees have applied for temporary residence in other countries.
The European Union has granted Ukraine the right to live and work in the 27 member states for up to three years. In the UK, a refugee visa scheme was launched to allow Ukrainians to live with British households without rent for at least six months.
