Iranian Government Urges Arab League to Focus on Israeli Crimes |
Tehran - Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said Arab League countries have a "lack of understanding" about regional developments and "what is happening in the region".
Nasser Kanaani's stance was in response to statements issued by Arab League foreign ministers after their meeting earlier this week. At that time the Arab League foreign ministers criticized the Islamic Republic of Iran for interfering in the internal affairs of Arab countries.
"The issuance of the statement reflects a lack of understanding, by the signatory countries, of the development of regional events and the reality of what is happening in the region," Kanaani said.
He advised, “Arab League countries to focus on the Zionist entity's crimes against the Palestinian people, rather than repeating less valuable accusations.” He considered, “Arab League statements contradict the efforts of some signatory countries to improve the quality of their relations with Iran.”
The Council of the League of Arab States held its 158th session at the level of foreign ministers on Tuesday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League. They discussed issues of joint Arab action such as political, security, economic, legal and social.
Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Faisal Bin Farhan Bin Abdullah Al Saud chaired a meeting of the Arab Ministers' Quartet Committee on the crisis with Iran, which "discussed the course of Arab relations with Iran and ways of dealing with interference in the internal affairs of Arab states."
Iraq has hosted talks between Riyadh and Tehran since 2021 in a bid to end their diplomatic rift and reach an understanding of the conflict in Yemen and the Iranian nuclear issue. Iran and Saudi Arabia severed diplomatic ties in January 2016, following an attack on the Saudi Embassy in Tehran after the Shiite cleric Nimr Al-Nimr was executed by Saudi authorities.
