Missile Systems S-400, Buk-M3, and A-135 Amur Will Get Tactical Nuclear Ammunition |
International Military - The S-400 missile seems to be increasingly becoming a bone of contention for many countries. With its highly sophisticated power, the air defense system is expected to be loaded with tactical nuclear munitions.
It is known that Russia has developed tactical nuclear munitions for the S-400, Buk-M3 and A-135 Amur air defense systems. This was written by the Ukrainian site mil.in.ua, citing the Russian magazine Atom, where Atom is a magazine published by the Russian Federal Nuclear Center in Sarov.
Quoted from Bulgarian Military, the article dates back to 2016, but is only now becoming known. According to the authors at Atom, Russia has carried out the development of tactical nuclear weapons. They are intended for three complexes, but it is not stated which one they are.
The Ukrainian side assumes that two of them are the S-400 air defense missile system and the Buk-M3 mobile air defense system. And most likely the third is the A-135 Amur.
The S-400 is unquestionable. Its existence even makes many other countries want it. On the other hand, the Buk-M3 is a system that is significantly different from its predecessors to warrant the new US Department of Defense designation SA-27.
Quoted from The Drive, in service since around 2016, the Buk-M3 uses the new 9M317M missile. It also includes electronic components to provide much better performance compared to older Buk systems.
According to the US Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) manual, it "outperforms even the old S-300P long-range air defense system". The third system assumed to use tactical nuclear munitions is the A-135 Amur.
Unlike the Buk-M3 and S-400, the A-135 Amur has a long-range missile interceptor called the 51T6 Azov. The 51T6 Azov is also equipped with a nuclear warhead. The maximum operating range of this system is 900 km.
