The Ka-52M Helicopter Variant Directly Deployed by Russia to the Battlefield |
Moscow - The Russian Armed Forces have deployed upgraded Ka-52M reconnaissance/attack helicopters in their special military operations in Ukraine. A Russian defense industry source said the Ka-52M underwent state and military tests in Ukraine.
“Currently, the Ka-52M is undergoing state trials and the military has made the decision to test the upgraded fighter in special operations. The helicopter has proven its worth in action," an unnamed source told TASS (2/9). The results of the deployment of these helicopters in Ukraine were then evaluated for further refinement.
The Ka-52M Attack Helicopter is an upgraded version of the Ka-52 Alligator attack helicopter. The Ka-52M missile armament has been standardized with the other Mi-28NM helicopter advanced weapons range.
The Ka-52M helicopter is equipped with a new phased array radar station and long-range missiles. The upgraded fighter prototype made its debut flight on August 10, 2020.
The design of the KA-52M features top-of-the-line technical solutions, namely a gyro stabilized long range optoelectronic target acquisition and identification system, new digital drive guidance to improve weapon aiming accuracy, new chassis wheels with disc crushing equipment, and more wear-resistant aircraft tires. In addition, the helicopter uses the new VK-2500 engine.
The contract for the procurement of the Ka-52M has been signed between the Russian Ministry of Defense and the manufacturer of this helicopter, namely Russian Helicopters, part of Rostec.
