Poland Plans to Transfer All Soviet-Era Weapons to Ukraine |
Warsaw - Poland goverment intends to deliver all their operational weapons acquired from the era of the Soviet Union to Ukraine. The delivery of the Eastern Block-era defense equipment to Ukraine will receive a reward for the new Western Block-made defense equipment from America and Europe.
Quoted from Military Cognizance, the old military equipment will be transferred to Ukraine under a non-free lease agreement. Among the defense equipment that has been and will be delivered to Ukraine are the T-72 MBT, BMP-1, MT-LB, and BRDM-2 armored fighting vehicles.
Currently the Polish Military is also still operating a number of MLRS Grad and Osa and Kub air defense complexes. Among the most common Soviet-era defense equipment is the BMP-1. The number is more than 1,000 units, although those that are actually operational are around 100 units.
For fighter and attack aircraft, the Polish Air Force operates about 23 MiG-29s and 18 Su-22s. Meanwhile, 11 units of Mi-8/Mi-17 are still used for helicopters.
It was not explained in detail what the total amount of each type of defense equipment would be transferred to strengthen the Ukrainian military against Russia in the war that started in February 2022.
In addition to replacing its products with Western ones, such as the AW149 helicopter from Italy, Poland has also purchased FA-50 fighter jets as well as K2 MBT and K9 SPH from South Korea.
