Russian Navy to Coat Borei-Class And Yaseen-Class Submarines With Noise-Resistant Rubber |
Moscow - Russia announced it will integrate a new layer on its submarine fleet. The first two submarines to receive the new coating are the Borei-class and Yassen-class submarines. The new coating of noise-resistant rubber will make Russian submarines undetectable, writes Izvestia, the Russian Ministry of Defense media.
The Ministry of Defense has approved a timetable for the integration of the coverage. In addition, nuclear-powered submarines of these two classes continue to be built by Russia.
The Borei-class submarines carry cruise missiles, similar to the US Ohio-class submarines. The same is true for the Yassen-class submarines. A new layer called “Medusa rubber” serves to protect the sound inside the submarine, i.e. it eliminates the sound.
The second function is to significantly reduce enemy sonar reflection. "Russia's most valuable submarines must be equipped first," said the commander of the Russian submarine, Igor Kurdin, quoted by Bulgarian Military in response to the function of the rubber coating.
The Borei-class and Yassen-class submarines are each equipped with 16 R-30 Bulava intercontinental ballistic missiles. Each Bulava missile is equipped with multiple warheads.
