Slovakia Has Decommissioned MiG-29 Fighters For Delivery To Ukraine |
Bratislava - The Slovak Air Force has decommissioned Soviet-made MiG-29 fighters for delivery to Ukraine. As a temporary replacement, fighter planes of the Czech and Polish Air Forces will patrol Slovak airspace. The three-nation agreement has been signed by each of the prime ministers of the three countries.
As reported, Ukraine has requested Soviet-made planes from supporting countries. The MiG-29 is a Soviet-made aircraft that has been controlled by Ukrainian Air Force pilots.
Slovakia bought the latest F-16s from the United States, but were delayed for almost two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Slovak Ministry of Defense, represented by its head Yaroslav Nagy, has repeatedly promised to transfer the planes to Ukraine, but only after signing agreements with the Czech Republic and Poland.
According to the signed agreement, Czech and Polish aircraft will begin the mission to protect the Slovak skies on September 1. They would fly for about a year and a half until Bratislava received its own fighter.
