Specifications of the Type 003 Fujian Aircraft Carrier Mainstay of the Chinese Navy |
Beijing - China launched the third most advanced aircraft carrier, Fujian. The launch will take place in Shanghai in June 2022. The Type 003 aircraft carrier Fujian is an aircraft carrier that uses a gas pressure catapult launch system (CATOBAR) as well as an electromagnetic catapult launcher to fly aircraft.
The name Fujian for the Type 003 aircraft carrier is in accordance with the name of the closest province in mainland China to the island of Taiwan. The same was done on the two previous carriers, namely Liaoning and Shandong, which are the names of provinces in China.
The launch of Fujian is part of an ongoing effort to modernize the Chinese Navy, which already has two aircraft carriers. The aircraft carrier Fujian was designed and manufactured by Chinese engineers at the Shanghai-based Jiangnan Shipyard. Weighing up to 80,000 tons, this ship has a length of 304.5 meters, larger than its predecessor.

The size of the Fujian ship is even said to be almost the same as the Ford-class aircraft carrier belonging to the United States Navy (US). Fujian can carry 2,700 crew members and 85 marine detachments to carry out search and rescue missions. The ship has an operational range of 10,000 nautical miles without refueling.

Regarding fuel, the Fujian aircraft carrier has an integrated electric fuel source and propulsion system consisting of two gas turbine generators and four diesel-electric generators that can generate 150 megawatts of electricity. In addition, the ship is equipped with four axle propellers that allow it to reach a top speed of 30 knots and a cruising speed of 28 knots.
Fujian is equipped with a dual-band active electronically scanned array radar system consisting of four S-band dragon eye type 346 radars and four smaller X-band AESA radar panels. Radar is placed at the top to provide a wider range of 400 kilometers.
Not only that, this ship has several sonar towed arrays to detect submarines during the war. The Fujian ship is also equipped with a multi-layered defense network against short to long range missiles. The presence of the newest aircraft carrier has made China increasingly respected by its opponents, both in the region and around the world.
