Iran Equip 51 Cities with Defense Systems |
Taheran - Iran has equipped 51 cities with civil defense systems to thwart any possible foreign attack. This was revealed by a senior defense official on Saturday (3/9/2022), amid rising tensions with Israel and the United States.
"Civil defense equipment enables Iran's armed forces to identify and monitor threats using software round the clock according to the type of threat and the risk," Deputy Defense Minister General Mehdi Farahi said, as quoted by Reuters.
"Lately, depending on the strength of the country, the form of fighting has become more complicated," Farahi said. He added that hybrid forms of warfare, including cyber, biological and radioactive attacks, had replaced classical warfare.
He did not mention countries that could threaten Iran. Iran has accused Israel and the United States of carrying out cyber attacks in recent years that have damaged the country's infrastructure.
Iran also accuses Israel, which neither confirms nor denies responsibility, of sabotaging its nuclear facilities. US-Iran military tensions have also long plagued the region. In the latest incident, Iran seized a US military unmanned sailing vessel in the Red Sea earlier this week even as the two countries held nuclear talks.
On Tuesday, the US Navy said it had foiled an attempt by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC-N) Navy forces to capture an unmanned surface ship operated by the US 5th Fleet in the Gulf. Iran says the drone is a danger to maritime traffic.
