US Air Force Will Send F-22 Raptor Stealth Fighter Jets to the Greek Island of Crete |
International Military - The United States will send F-22 Raptor stealth fighter jets to the Greek island of Crete to carry out exercises with the Hellenic Air Force (HAF). A number of local media reported this, but there was no official statement from the Greek Ministry of Defense.
The deployment of stealth fighter jets outside the continental US and US pure bases around the world, is quite rare. Soluda Air Base on the island of Crete, is the headquarters of HAF's 115th Fighter Wing.
The United States carries out continued deployment and training with the F-22 to be able to carry out airspace missions wherever and whenever needed.
As is known, the Eastern Mediterranean region is the most important in the current period for US interests. Such actions by the US Air Force were carefully planned and avoided announcing their intentions beforehand, the Bulgarian Military wrote.
The USAF is redesigning its exercises in close collaboration with Command in Europe (USAFE). With the presence of the F-22 on the island of Crete, Greece could benefit significantly by holding exercises for their F-16 and Rafales fleet.
