Russia Accelerate Manufacture of Su-57 Fighter

Moscow - Russia's state-owned company Rostec has announced to increase production of aluminum which is one of the main construction components of the Su-57 stealth fighter jet. The primary metal aluminum is essential for making modern fighter jets and rockets. In addition to strong aluminum, the production of polymers and fiberglass has also increased. "600 cubic meters of these key materials will be produced annually, thanks to increased production," Rostec said in a statement.

Oleg Yevtushenko, Executive Director of Rostec, said in an interview with the company's website that Russia was threatened with shortages of construction components after Western companies imposed sanctions. He hopes that this increase in production can prevent a shortage of the main material for making fighter aircraft.

Russian sources report that a new production assembly line has opened at the Komsomolsk-on-Amur aviation plant in the Far East. It is expected that the number of Su-57s produced will increase in the coming years.

Most likely, the new production line will also take over the production of other Russian aircraft, such as the Su-75. Inside the new production facility, the Russian Federation is building an avionics test facility, fuel dock and engine test station. The new production site will have facilities for pilot training with a virtual reality system.

Russian website Voennoe Delo says that the new manufacturing will improve the quality of the series-produced fighter jet as well as its stealth technology capabilities. “The new plant will have modern technology that will compete with China and the United States,” wrote Voenno Delo.

Russia's main problem, which continues to be, is a shortage of chips and electronic components. Sergey Chemezov, Director General of Rostec announced that Russia is still buying these components from Southeast Asia, trading through rubles, yuan, rupees and others.

Chemezov reports that Russia is also trying to produce its own base of electronic components.

“More than 700 types of electronic components have been made, and about 1,300 samples of foreign electronic components have been replaced. Not only us but also other local companies working. This work is very tiring, it is not done in an instant,” he said. Russia continues to develop and manufacture power units for its navy and helicopter gunships. The main manufacturer of engines for Russia's Ka and Mi helicopters is UEC-Klimov in Saint Petersburg.
