Russian Missiles Cross Moldovan Airspace Before Hit Ukraine |
Chișinău - Moldova says Russian cruise missiles targeting Ukraine crossed its airspace. The country immediately summoned the Russian ambassador to demand an explanation. "Three cruise missiles were launched in Ukraine this morning from a Russian ship in the Black Sea across Moldovan airspace," Moldovan Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu said on Twitter on Monday (10/10/2022).
"I have instructed that the Russian ambassador be summoned to give an explanation," he stressed.
Popescu expressed anger at the many attacks carried out in Ukrainian cities on Monday, a day after Moscow blamed Ukraine for the explosion on the bridge linking Crimea to Russia. “Shocked by several Russian rocket attacks on cities across Ukraine, including the capital Kiev, which hit civilian targets. Russia must stop killing," he said.
He said his office had been in touch with the staff of the Moldovan embassy in Kiev. "They are safe and sheltered from senseless attacks on civilians," he said. "Our thoughts are with the victims of this brutal attack," Popescu said.
Like Ukraine, little Moldova was a former part of the Soviet Union with a pro-Western government. Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian refugees have flooded into Moldova since Russia sent troops to Ukraine.
Moldova along with Ukraine were granted candidate status by the European Union to show support in the face of a Russian attack. Moldova has a small breakaway territory, Transnistria, which is armed and supported by Russia.
