Madrid - The Spanish Navy selected the Naval Strike Missile (NSM) to replace the Harpoon missiles which are currently discontinued from their active service. These missiles will complement the Spanish Navy's lvaro de Bazán (F-100 and F-110) class frigates.

The NSM is an anti-ship and land-attack missile developed by the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace (KDA). This missile uses composite materials to achieve stealth capabilities.

The NSM weighs over 400 kg and has a range of over 185 km (100 nautical miles). This missile is designed for coastal water scenarios (brown water) as well as for open sea scenarios (green water and blue water).

The use of the TDW's high strength titanium alloy explosion/fragmentation warhead is in line with the modern lightweight design and high explosive insensitive feature.

The NSM is capable of flying over and around land, gliding in sea skim mode, and then performing random maneuvers in the terminal phase, making it more difficult to stop enemy countermeasures.

The lvaro de Bazán class frigates are a class of air defense frigates equipped with the Aegis combat system that are in service with the Spanish Navy.
