Specifications of the Iranian-made Shahed-136 Drone that Wary Ukrainian Soldiers |
International Military - Drone Shahed-136 developed by Iran serves to neutralize targets from a distance. This drone made Iran known in the global arena in kamikaze drone technology, after being considered successful in the Russia-Ukraine war. The drone has a delta wing configuration with a stabilizing rudder at the tip. The elegant shape is achieved by centering the fuselage and blending it with the wing elements.
The nose section contains the warhead and optical devices needed for precision strikes. The engine is positioned at the rear of the fuselage and drives the propellers with two blades. The drone is launched almost horizontally at a modest angle, and the first phase of the flight is Rocket-Assisted Take-Off (RATO).

Immediately after launch, the rocket is dumped, and the drone's conventional engine unit takes over. These drones are armed with four or eight missiles, and if necessary, can be equipped with self-destruct devices. After firing all the ammunition can destroy the target and explode.
The Shahed-136 drone is made of fiber making it difficult for radar to detect. The drone engine is very cheap but allows to accelerate the device up to 150 km/h or 20 km/h faster than the Turkish Bayraktar TB2 drone used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The Shahed-136 drone carries a 36 kg warhead and is claimed to have a range of about 2,500 km. However, if it is assumed that the actual flying distance of the drone is two to three times lower than stated, this is still a very good distance.
The Shahed-136 drone is more practical than Turkey's Bayraktar TB2 drone. Turkey's Baykar drone is a white elephant for Ukraine because it is too expensive to bet on and too lightly armed to use.
