Two New NASAMS Systems From US Installed in Ukraine Today |
Kiev - Two National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS) which were recently delivered to the United States (US) government are currently being installed in Ukraine. Raytheon CEO Greg Hayes revealed this in an interview. "We just delivered two NASAMS systems ... we sent them to the (US) government a few weeks ago, they're being installed in Ukraine today," Hayes told CNBC on Tuesday (10/25/2022).
The Pentagon did not immediately respond to Sputnik for a request for comment on the matter. Hayes added, “At this point the US government has decided they will only allow NASAMS into Ukraine and not the Patriot missile defense system, however, that is a topic of ongoing discussion between Raytheon and US officials. Any final decision on whether the Patriot missile defense system will be deployed to Ukraine will come from the White House," Hayes said.
Ukraine expects to receive a minimum of six more NASAMS as part of a $2.98 billion military aid package to Kiev announced in August. However, it is not expected to be delivered to Ukraine in the near future. NASAMS is a short to medium range ground-based air defense system that can fight drones, helicopters, cruise missiles and aircraft.
