Bayraktar TB2 Will Be Equipped With Air-to-Air Missiles |
International Military - One way to combat Russian kamikaze drones in the Ukrainian war zone is to shoot them from the air. For this reason, a manned or unmanned aircraft platform is needed to be able to immobilize it while flying.
Encouraged by this, the Baykar factory from Turkey, which makes the Bayraktar TB2 drone, was inspired to equip this attack drone with air-to-air missiles. Baykar CEO Haluk Bayraktar said that efforts to modify the Bayraktar TB2 are currently being carried out.
“Soon, our Bayraktar TB2 and Akinci will have air-to-air missiles. Not only to attack drones, but also other enemy aircraft. We are conducting tests," he told the German newspaper Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa) at the SAHA Expo exhibition in Istanbul last October.
The integration of air-to-air missiles on the Bayraktar TB2 and Akinci combat drones could lead to the creation of a low-cost air patrol concept. This is to dispel threats coming from attack helicopters, drones, including kamikaze drones.
As indicated, Russia massively used the Iranian-made Shahed-136 suicide drone, which was later renamed Geran-2. In increasing production and cooperation with Ukraine, the Baykar factory will also build Bayraktar TB2 and Akinci drone assembly facilities in Ukraine.
