During testing in October in the Baltic Sea, the conventional submarine Ufa made a successful dive. The crew has also tested its maneuverability and handling at different operational depths. The Ufa is the fourth submarine in a series of underwater cruisers under construction for Russia's Pacific Fleet. This protection was established by the Russian Ministry of Defense in November 2019.
The Project 636.3 (NATO reporting name, Kilo-II Upgrade) submarine belongs to the third generation of large diesel electric submarines. Despite being conventional, Ufa ranks among the quietest underwater cruisers in the world. It is 74 meters long and displaces more than 3,900 tons.
Due to its strong hull, the submarine has an operational depth of 240 meters and can dive to a maximum depth of 300 meters. The submarines of this project have an operational range of up to 7,500 miles or about 12,070 km. These submarines are armed with Kalibr-PL cruise missiles launched from torpedo tubes.
