With temperatures dropping below zero degrees Celsius, repeated Russian attacks have teetered on the verge of collapse of Ukraine's energy grid, and disrupted the supply of electricity and water to millions of people in recent weeks.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned the coming week could be as difficult as the past as Russia prepares for a new offensive. In the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, Mayor Vitali Klitschko urged people to stock up on food, clothing and other essential items amid the possibility of worsening power outages.
He said some of the city's three million residents might also have to be evacuated to places where essential services would be less vulnerable to the shutdown caused by Russian missile strikes.
