US-made HIMARS hits Nova Kakhovka Dam in Russian-controlled Ukraine |
Moscow - The Nova Kakhovka Dam in Russia-controlled Ukraine was damaged by a rocket attack from Ukrainian troops. Russia's TASS news agency on Sunday (6/11/2022), citing a representative of the emergency services reported, a rocket launched by the US-made HIMARS missile system hit the dam.
"It was an attempt to create conditions for a humanitarian disaster by attacking the dam," the official said. Unfortunately, the report provides no evidence to support the allegations.
The sprawling Nova Kakhovka dam has been targeted by Ukrainian and Russian forces in recent weeks. Since October, the two countries have repeatedly accused each other of planning to break into the dam using explosives. If that happens, the water will flood most of the downstream area which is likely to cause major devastation around Kherson City.
