Kabul - The interim Taliban government that rules Afghanistan is repairing 70 aircrafts and helicopters damaged by US troops following riots last year when the Taliban took over the country's government.

For 20 years, the US military and its military equipment have been in Afghanistan. However, on August 31, 2021 they ended their existence in the country which is located in the South and Central Asia region.

US military aircraft, helicopters and equipment in Afghanistan were damaged by the US military itself before they left Afghanistan, as reported by Andolu and Pakistan Today. Currently the interim government of the Taliban took the initiative to start rebuilding the Afghan Air Force and repairing US-era aircraft and helicopters.

It is known that the Afghan Air Force during the previous administration had approximately 600 pilots and technicians. A large number of them have fled the country out of fear and insecurity. At the request of the Taliban, about 40 pilots and technicians were lured back into Afghanistan and began their work.

In repairing damaged aircraft and helicopters, air force technicians use spare parts from other aircraft. This is because Afghanistan cannot buy replacement parts.

"We completed this work entirely on our own," said Defense Ministry spokesman Inayatullah Khawarizmi. He said that Afghanistan is currently not in a position to have the budget to buy new military planes or helicopters.
