After the M1A2 Abrams Tank, Poland Purchased 2 SIGINT Ships from Saab Worth 620 Million Euros |
Warsaw - Poland continues to accelerate the increase in military strength. Various weapons were purchased by this country located in the Central European Region. Recently, the Polish Defense Procurement Agency signed a contract worth 620 million euros (646 million USD) with Sweden's Saab for the purchase of two signal intelligence vessels (SIGINT).
Under the agreement, both ships purchased will be delivered in 2027. The SIGINT vessels are used to support intelligence data acquisition across the full spectrum of naval intelligence capabilities. Often these ships are called spy ships.
Saab will act as prime contractor. Saab designed and manufactured both ships including the integration of their advanced mission systems. The company said the construction of this ship will also be assisted by subcontractor Remontowa Shipbuilding SA in Poland.
Poland ordered the vessel after Saab completed construction of the SIGINT vessel for the Swedish Navy, HSwMS Artemis. Currently the ship is in sea trials before official delivery.
It should be noted that Poland was also involved in the construction of this ship, as the hull was built by Nauta Shiprepair Yard in Poland before being transferred to Sweden for installation of the special SIGINT system. Sweden's purchase of two SIGINT ships adds to the long string of acquisitions of weapons systems that Warsaw has purchased.
Poland recently purchased K2 Black Panther tanks and K9 self-propelled howitzers from South Korea in deals worth around 5.7 billion USD. Warsaw also purchased K239 Chunmoo multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) and FA-50 Fighting Eagle fighter jets from South Korea.
Also this year, Poland stated that it will purchase an additional 500 HIMARS M142 launchers which will equip more than 80 batteries of the Polish Army. Meanwhile, recently Poland also purchased 250 M1A2 SEPV3 Abrams main battle tanks from the United States, and many other weapons purchases.
