Brazilian Police Receive 8 Scorpion 4X4 MRAP Armored Vehicles From UAE Streit Group |
Brasilia - UAE-based development company Streit Group armored vehicles delivered eight Scorpion 4X4s to the Brazilian Federal Police in early November. The contract for the procurement of MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) type vehicles was signed in 2019, as announced by Army Recognition (14/11).
The purchase of this new armored vehicle will increase the protection, mobility and combat power of the Brazilian Federal Police. Four of the vehicles are equipped with the Guardian Aspis remotely operated weapon station (RCWS) manufactured by Spanish company Escribano.
The Scorpion MRAP was launched by Streit Group Companies at the Eurosatory defense exhibition in June 2012 in France. The vehicle is designed to offer a high level of protection featuring a modular design with a monocoque V-hull armored compartment. The layout of the Scorpion MRAP model is conventional, with the engine positioned at the front, the crew compartment in the middle and the cargo area at the rear.
As an MRAP vehicle, the Scorpion's composite steel hull is designed to withstand a blast equivalent to 10 kg.TNT, or has the protection rating STANAG 4569 Level 2+. The forward cabin accommodates a crew of two including a driver and a commander. On the back can accommodate up to four security officers.
Scorpion MRAP is powered by a Cummins 6 Cylinders ISBE diesel engine with a capacity of 6,700 cc which produces 300 hp of power. Its maximum speed on flat roads reaches 110 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 800 km. Vehicles can also cross rivers with a maximum depth of 1.5 m.
