Castle Bravo VS Tsar Bomba, the US and Russia's Strongest Weapons of Mass Destruction |
International Military - The nuclear bomb belonging to the two superpowers of the United States (US) and Russia is interesting to review. The public also wants to know which bomb has more explosive power. The United States and Russia are known as countries that have military power with deadly weapons, including nuclear bombs.
The US's Castle Bravo and Russia's Tsar Bomba are the two most dangerous nuclear bombs to date, both from the explosion side to the impact they cause.
1. US Castle Bravo
Quoted from the Brookings page, Castle Bravo weighs about 10,660 kg with an explosive power of 15 megatons, which makes it 1,000 times stronger than the weapons used to level Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The explosion of this nuclear bomb can also produce a crater with a diameter of 1,900 meters and a depth of 76 meters.
On March 1, 1954, the US tested this bomb at Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands. The test resulted in the fall of nuclear particles which rained down on the inhabitants of the Atoll near the detonation site. Years later the people on the island began to experience health problems including birth defects.
It is estimated that around 665 Marshall Islands residents were exposed to excessive radiation. This fatal error led to the end of the testing of this deadly weapon. Overall, between 1946 and 1958, the United States conducted 67 nuclear weapons tests in the Pacific Ocean.
2. Russia's Tsar Bomba
According to Britanica, Tsar Bomba is the Russian word for "King of Bombs". The Nuclear Bomb was created in 1961 by a group of Soviet physicists and led by Andrey Sakharov. Weighing about 27 tons, with a length of 8 meters. Initially the explosive capacity of the Tsar Bomba itself was claimed to reach 100 megatons, which was later reduced because it was considered too dangerous to 50 megatrons.
Even though it has been reduced, this number is still much stronger than the US's Castle Bravo. The Tsar Bomba is estimated to be 3,800 times more powerful than the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. On October 30, 1961, tests were carried out to see how powerful this bomb was.
The bomb exploded about 4 km above the ground, and produced an explosion of smoke more than 60 km high. The flash of the explosion could even be seen from 1,000 km away. The former explosion alone caused damage up to 160 km in diameter. While the heat of the explosion is expected to cause third degree burns within a radius of 100 km.
If you look at the explanation above, it is clear that Russian-made nuclear bombs are far superior to the US's Castle Bravo. Starting from the size, explosive power to the impact. Because of that the Tsar Bomba is still the deadliest nuclear bomb ever made.
