China Launches New Air Defense Systems: HQ-9B, HQ-11, and HQ-16FE

Beijing - China unveiled three new missile-based air defense systems at the recently passed Airshow China 2022. The three systems are HQ-9B, HQ-11, and HQ-16FE.

Independently developed by China, the HQ-9B is a new generation medium- to long-range surface-to-air missile weapon. The system is used to intercept cluster attacks and air weapons under strong electromagnetic interference, wrote the Global Times citing experts.

HQ-9B covers a large area with dense firepower and good anti-jamming capability. This system is available for export under the name HQ-9BE.

Another new air defense system is the HQ-11. The system consists of a vehicle equipped with eight vertical missile launch cells and another vehicle equipped with melee weapons. Both vehicles are equipped with suitable radar systems.

The HQ-11 is designed to cover a shorter range than the HQ-9B, but is so fast and mobile that it can accompany other valuable assets while in motion.

The third is the HQ-16FE medium to long range air defense missile weapon system. The HQ-16FE can intercept a wide variety of target types including manned aircraft, drones, cruise missiles and tactical ballistic missiles in a highly intelligent and aggressive manner.

Compared to its predecessor, HQ-16FE has a longer range and more powerful capabilities.
