Russia Builds 2 Naval Military Bases In Southern Region of Ukraine |
Moscow - Russia is planning to build two military bases in the southern part of Ukraine which it controlled during the invasion. The construction of a military base on the territory of Ukraine is intended to support the activities of the Russian Navy.
“The ports in Berdyansk and Mariupol are fully functional. We plan to build a military base to support ships, emergency services and repair units in the Navy," Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.
The plan to build the military base was disclosed by Shoigu during a meeting with President Vladimir Putin and top Russian military officials in Moscow. Berdiansk port is in the Zaporizhzhia region, while Mariupol port is in the Mariupol region, southern Ukraine.
As is known, Russia has occupied Mariupol since the invasion began in late February 2022. Plans for building a military base were sparked as Russian troops reportedly continued to decline in occupied Ukraine.
The Ukrainian side has just released news on December 22, 2022, that their military has succeeded in killing more than 100,000 Russian troops since the invasion began.
