The Only Russian Aircraft Carrier Admiral Kuznetsov Burns For the Second Time |
Moscow - This is not the first time that a fire has occurred on Russia's only aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov. However, this time the fire was small in scale and has been successfully extinguished.
The Admiral Kuznetsov was undergoing a major overhaul in Russia's northwestern Murmansk region when a fire appeared on board the ship. The ship has just been moved to a new drydock after more than four years of repairs.
This is not the first incident during such work. Another fire occurred on this ship in 2019. Ten years earlier in 2009, the Admiral Kuznetsov also experienced a fire while in port in Turkey which caused the death of one crew member.

Andrey Miroshnikov, Head of the Press Service of JSC Zvyozdochka, a shipyard responsible for refitting and repairing Russian naval vessels, confirmed the fire on the Admiral Kuznetsov.
"On December 22, in one of the places of the TAVKR (cruiser) Admiral Kuznetsov, a fire appeared, causing local smoke," he said. It added that the fire was put out immediately by the ship's emergency services and special services employees.

"No damage was done to the ship. There were no casualties as a result of the incident. The independent causes will be immediately investigated and will be the result of the audit," said Miroshnikov.
Meanwhile, an emergency services source told TASS that 20 people had to be evacuated in the incident.
