Washington - The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln of the United States Navy (US) suffered a fire on Tuesday American time. Nine American sailors were injured in the incident. According to a US Navy press release, six of the nine sailors were dehydrated.

“On the morning of November 29, 2022, a fire occurred aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier; USS Abraham Lincoln," the Navy said in a statement. U.S. 3rd Fleet officials said Wednesday they had no information about the injuries of the other three sailors.

The fire was extinguished quickly. All of the injured were treated on board the ship, which was operating off the coast of southern California. "The fire was quickly identified and extinguished through the crew's fire suppression efforts," the 3rd Fleet said in a brief statement, as quoted by the Navy Times, Thursday (12/1/2022).

Navy officials declined to say where the fire had started, citing the safety of the operation. However, they noted that the USS Abraham Lincoln continued to operate at sea and the cause of the fire was being investigated.

The fire comes nearly two and a half years after a massive fire engulfed the battleship USS Bonhomme Richard which injured 21 people. The ship was completely destroyed. One sailor was accused of starting a fire that started the fire, but the sailor was later acquitted.
