Volodymyr Zelensky Arrives in Washington using a US Aircraft |
Washington - President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Washington, United States using a state aircraft provided by the United States, he arrived aboard a US C-40B (modified Boeing 737), on Wednesday, December 21, 2022.
Zelensky's visit to the US was in an effort to seek assistance from United States President Joe Biden so that Kyiv's defense could be strengthened in the face of a Russian invasion. This working visit is Zelensky's first overseas trip since Russia invaded Ukraine 300 days ago.
This visit shows how deep the trust of the United States is in Volodymyr Zelensky, the number one person in Ukraine since May 20 2019.
US President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden welcomed President Zelenskiy on the South Lawn, White House, in Washington, as reported by Reuters. Biden immediately put his arm around Zelensky's back when the two leaders met.
Moments before Zelensky arrived in Washington, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that he would release a $1.85 billion military aid package to Ukraine, including the Patriot air defense system.
President Biden said he stands with Ukraine against the Russian onslaught and supports Kyiv's desire for a just peace.
After that, Biden and Zelensky continued their talks at the White House behind closed doors. Zelensky will provide a press statement after his meeting with Biden. He is also scheduled to give a speech on the Capitol Hill before members of the US Senate and members of the US House of Representatives.
