The Greatness of the T-90M Was Praised by Russian Tank Commanders |
International Military - The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation released a comparison of the sophistication of the T-90M and T-72 tanks tested by Russian tank crews. As a result, the T-90M tank has a better fire control and protection system than the T-72 tank.
A T-90M Proryv tank commander with call sign Svetliy said the first thing that impressed him was the better fire control system. Moreover, the armament of the T-90M tank is also different from the T-72.
The T-90M tank also features a new Kort design machine gun that replaces the obsolete Soviet-era NSVT machine gun. The 12.7 x 108mm heavy machine gun has a rate of fire of 600–650 rounds/minute and an effective range of 2,000 meters.
According to Svetliy, with the new electro-optical system, the T-90M's crew can aim faster than that used on the T-72. The commander of this tank said that the target image and contour from the electro-optical system have also been improved, and the T-90M has a rear view camera. Svetliy also likes the features of the new surveillance system, which can operate on day, night and thermal imaging. Later, the T-90M tank integrated the first laser rangefinder and electronic fire control system.
Svetliy was particularly impressed with the T-90's fire control system, which featured a voice assistant. Even a voice assistant is integrated into the tank's propulsion system. Glonass Svetliy says that if the tank you are driving overheats or there is a problem starting the engine, a voice assistant will let you know.
In addition, although the T-90 is heavier than the T-72, it is faster and more maneuverable. “Active protection is very, very good. On the T-72, the mechanic and the commander have to look in all directions at the same time, but here (T-90M) only towards the front," said the second T-90 commander with the code call Bronya quoted from the Military Bulgarian page, Monday ( 9/1/2023).
Prior to mastering the T-90 tank, Svetliy and Bronya were commanders of the first modified T-72. That is, they have been operating the tank since 1979 when the T-72 received the "A" modification. Svetliy and Bronya said that the T-90M tank was very suitable for use as conventional artillery and direct fire from closed positions. This, allows the T-90M tank to be very suitable in dense urban environments.
