List of 3 Fighter Planes Used by Ukraine in the War Against Russia |
International Military - Ukraine currently still has around 175 aircraft units of various types that are active in military service. Data from the World Directory of Modern Military Aircraft (WDMMA) shows that Ukraine has around 61 combat aircraft.
There are at least three types of combat aircraft belonging to Ukraine, but not including special bombers and CAS (close air support). The three Ukrainian combat aircraft are 28 units of Sukhoi Su-27 Flanker, 21 units of Mikoyan MiG-29 Fulcrum, and 12 units of Sukhoi Su-24 Fencer.
1. Sukhoi Su-24 Fencer

The Su-24 fighter remains a powerful long-range strike aircraft with all-weather precision strike capabilities. With its variable geometry swing wings and side-by-side cockpit, the Su-24 is inevitably compared to the US General Dynamics F-111. The aircraft was never intended or used as a strategic bomber, but in fact the Su-24 carried out this mission.
The aircraft can carry up to 8,000 kg of ordnance, but its normal capacity is around 4,000 kg. The Su-24 is designed to replace the Yak-28 in an all-weather tactical attack and strike role. Its role can also be optimized as a supersonic bomber, secondary photographic reconnaissance and electronic warfare.
2. Sukhoi Su-27 Flankers

The Sukhoi Design Bureau developed the Su-27 Flanker as an interceptor for air defense. The Su-27 fighter has agile maneuverability with a very long range. The Su-27 fighter is equipped with heavy weaponry and modern sensors, which are capable of dealing with the F-15 Eagle.
The single-seat Su-27 fighter (Flanker-B) finally entered operational service in 1985 and, despite its age, is still one of the formidable interceptor fighter jets.
It was reported that the Su-27 Flanker of the Ukrainian Air Force suffered its worst defeat on March 5, 2022 to the Russian Sukhoi Su-35 aircraft force. This shows that the Su-27 Flanker, can be outperformed by the more modern fighter Su-35.
3. Mikoyan MiG-29 Fulcrum

The MiG-29 Fulcrum fighter was developed for the Soviet Air Force as a light multi-role fighter to replace the MiG-23 Flogger. The MiG-29's astounding maneuverability re-established the Soviet Union's reputation as a capable fighter aircraft manufacturer.
The MiG-29 fighter was born as a response from the Soviet Union to the United States' F-16 Falcon. MiG-29 fighter jets were built in large numbers, around 1,600 units and most of the around 900 units were exported. The MiG-29 fighter has proven to be a formidable close-range dogfighter. However, the MiG-29 was also assigned a dual air superiority and ground attack role. This multi-role fighter is also tasked with carrying out tactical nuclear strikes.
