| Turkey to Produce Three Frigates MILGEM Project in 3 Years |
Ankara - Turkey to Production of three MILGEM frigates in three years. Ismail Demir, Presidency of Defense Industry of Turkey (SSB) said this, as reported by local media. The three ships to be built are the 6th, 7th and 8th ships of the MİLGEM project, İstif (I) Class Frigate. the ships will be carried out by private Turkish shipyards.
Meanwhile SSB will coordinate the production of the three national frigates simultaneously by utilizing the production power of private sector shipyards.
In his statement to Anadolu Agency, Demir said the Defense Industry Executive Committee (SSİK) awarded the project to the TAİS business partnership at the session held in December 2022.
Demir said that each of the designated shipyards, namely Anadolu, Sedef and Sefine, would build class-I frigates simultaneously. Upon completion, the three ships will be handed over to the Turkish Navy.
He underlined that shipyards are making great progress in ship design and construction. The companies have developed their financial structure with project management and qualified workforce.
The three companies have also acquired the knowledge and experience to carry out projects and risk management in terms of military shipbuilding.
