North Korea Fires 2 Ballistic Missiles into the Sea of Japan |
Seoul - North Korea fired two ballistic missiles towards the Sea of Japan, according to the South Korean military (South Korea). South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff announced the detected launch and detailed the incident involving two short-range ballistic missiles.
South Korean officials indicated the missile was launched from the Jangyon area. No details were released on the altitude reached or where the projectiles landed.
The South Korean prime minister's office said no damage had been detected. he is still gathering data on the launch.
The missile launch came a day after South Korea and the United States launched an 11-day joint military drill on Monday.
In fact, Tuesday's missile launch came as North Korea announced it had test fired two "strategic cruise missiles" from a submarine before the start of the joint drills.
In early March, ahead of the joint exercises, North Korea conducted a ballistic missile test unlike usual. While launches are normally made in the direction of the Sea of Japan, tests early in March saw the leadership deliver the projectile into the Yellow Sea, waters bordering China's regional ally.
